Every year I write a couple of Christmas songs. The holiday retains its magic for me.
This one is in honor of the traditional feast, and for those who are so good at creating it, including my mom, Virginia Stotts, my cousin Anna Osborn, and my wife, Heather. I know it’s not always peace and love around the table (see Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation movie and countless others), but still the memory and warm feeling, mythical or actual, lives in me.
‘Round Our Christmas Table
Around Our Christmas Table
December 11, 2015
Come take a cup come take a seat
There’s cider and eggnog and cookies to eat
Come take a plate. Come take a chair.
Whatever we’ve got there’s plenty to share
‘Round our Christmas table
Our table on Christmas Day.
‘Round our Christmas table
Love will find its way.
Time for a poem. Time for a song
Time for a story that goes on too long.
Time to remember earlier years.
Time to remember those who aren’t here..
‘Round our Christmas table
Our table on Christmas Day.
‘Round our Christmas table
Love will find its way.
Room for a stranger room for a child
Room to forgive and to be reconciled
Room for a candle. Room for a star.
Room for you, whoever you are.
‘Round our Christmas table
Our table on Christmas Day.
‘Round our Christmas table
Love will find its way.
The gifts we give and we receive
The miracle of Christmas Eve
Take a moment to believe
Here in the light
Here in the light
Around our Christmas table
Our table on Christmas Day. 2x
