One more Christmas song. Going for the traditional feeling in the music, and another glimpse of the past. Simple times in a complicated world.
All for Christmas Morning
Like an answer to our prayers
With the day a dawning
We were waiting on the stairs
all for Christmas morning.
Mom and Dad weren’t ready yet
Stretching and a yawning
Til they got that camera set
all for Christmas morning
Sing, Sing a Christmas song.
Sing it sweet and sing it strong.
We’ve been waiting all year long.
All for Christmas morning.
Stockings that my grandma sewed
Filled with love and longing.
Stuffed so tight they might explode.
All for Christmas morning.
Gifts of every shapes and size
Wondering and wanting.
The best gift’s always a surprise
All for Christmas morning.
Sing, Sing a Christmas song.
Sing it sweet and sing it strong.
We’ve been waiting all year long.
All for Christmas morning.
We prayed for snow to freeze and fall
All the ground a covering
Like a blessing on us all
All for Christmas morning
Out beyond our fragile walls
This old world keeps turning
Someday peace may find us all
all on Christmas morning.

Lovely…though I don’t know if I can call snow a blessing after more winters than I care to recall, even if the word evoke a mighty pretty image – Norman Rockwell without the saccharin, a pure and perfect essence.
I really like this song Stuart. very nicely done, and authentic sounding. Was that a dulcimer on the song, or banjo? I like it. We will lay this Christmas morning for sure! peace, Annie Lynn
Hmmm…I don’t remember you growing up in my house, Stuart! But your lyrics are like you were there! Good one, Buddy!

perfect – captures the anticipation, the exhausted adults, the hope, the wonder, and the fragile transience. love how it ends with a wish for peace, and the simple, old timey flavor of the banjo and melody.
