My friend Jack Pearson, a great musician and songwriter, introduced me to this idea in a song of his own. I took the inspiration and wrote this song. Willy Wonka (the fantastic and sorely missed Gene Wilder) used the phrase, which you can watch here.
My wife Heather is the executive director of the Innovative Schools Network, a great organization that helps schools around the country collaborate and share best practices and new ideas. The organization recently turned 5 years old and had a party. I wrote this song in honor of their work and for all the teachers and artists I know who live and dream, but who also work to make the dreams come true. Intention and implementation. As the school year begins, I think of the great teachers I have worked with and all the parents who send their kids off with dreams for their future.
Perhaps someday I will make a more produced recording, but for now, the demo version.
We Are the Dreamers
We Are the Dreamers
We are the dreamers and makers of dreams
We love to the limit, embrace the extremes
Whatever we do, we make the world new
We are the dreamers where dreams come true.
We are the singers and makers of songs
We sing out loud and we sing out strong
Whatever we do, we make the world new
We are the dreamers where dreams come true.
We are the dancers and makers of dance
Where every step is a brand new chance.
Whatever we do, we make the world new
We are the dreamers where dreams come true.
We are the teachers teachers of all
Examine the big, examine the small.
Whatever we do, we make the world new
We are the dreamers where dreams come true.
We are the students, the students of all
Looking for wisdom that cuts like a knife.
Whatever we do, we make the world new
We are the dreamers where dreams come true.
We are the dreamers and makers of dreams
We love to the limits, embrace the extremes
Whatever we do, we make the world new
We are the dreamers where dreams come true.
Who make dreams come true….
