I went to Tanzania in August, 2016 for the second time. As part of the trip I asked our tour operator Ombeni if he could arrange for me to play some music with a local musician. He went further than that and brought in three musicians. We had a great time jamming in the hotel parking lot.
I am going back to Tanzania to work with them again. We intend to rehearse some songs I’ve written, record what we can in a local studio, and then do a concert at a local school. I’m very excited about this opportunity. I’ve been hard at work on writing songs about African animals with music that will connect to the kinds of rhythms that are indigenous.
Here’s a taste of the music.
Also, an interesting piece on a different musical initiative in Africa.
