I went to Mary Babula’s visitation tonight, joining hundreds of other people who came to remember her and celebrate her life. I had known Mary for many years, and every interaction I had with her was warm, kind, and positive. She was instrumental in the growth and development of WECA, and continued to work on behalf of children and childcare workers throughout her career. She recently retired, and the last time I saw her she was on her way with her partner Mary Mastaglio to a wonderful trip.
Like so many others, I was very sad to hear of her death. As people talked at the visitation, it was clear how many were inspired by her work. Those conversations inspired this song, as a celebration of Mary, her friendships, and her power in standing together for children.
‘When You Stand with Me
What a wonderful person MB sounds like. You’ve captured her essence – a beautiful tribute.
Another heart song, Stuart. Thank you.
Stuart, thanks for this great blog. Your words sooooo matter! Love the song.
Beautiful song for a beautiful lady. I have met Mary only on a few occasions as I worked with WECA and the light definitely surrounded her. Her vision and commitment will be missed.
Lovely tribute song Stuart!
Wonderful song, Stuart! Thank you.
Stuart you have this wonderful knack of creating songs that clearly state the beauty of people. This is another one I can see using in sooooo many different contexts.
