Two years ago, in December of 2016, I went back to Tanzania to arrange and record a number of songs I had written about Tanzania and my experience there. I was fortunate to work with the members of the Great Cornerstone Band, whose vocals in particular were stellar. This song features those vocals in shining display. Miriam sings in Swahili, then Masai, then English. I play the guitar and other band members play percussion and sing. Oh, and I play the amazing keyboard solo.
The words are Peace on Earth, and at the end Miriam sings/chants in Masai words of peace and community and connectedness. I don’t know how those words translate, but I will try to find out.
This is an initial mix of a larger project featuring more than ten songs, including La La Salama and Do What you Can. We didn’t get to record all of the songs, so I hope there might be another trip to finish them. But in the meantime, Wendy Schneider and I have been mixing what we do have, and here’s a taste.
Timely words for our world.
