Second Time Around
I saw you in the hardware store, I asked you how you’d been.
You said you were just bummin’ around, you looked at me and grinned.
I was pushing 80, so I wasn’t born yesterday
And I just up and asked you out to the downtown Elks buffet.
Second Time Around, second time around
Look at all the love we’ve found
Second time around.
You were married fifty years, I was married forty-eight.
We each raised our families, and all those years were great.
But cancer took your husband, my wife died and left me alone
Until I found you, and you found me, now we share a home…chorue
Our kids don’t understand it, they just don’t think it’s right.
They can’t believe that I still need someone to hold me tight.
Maybe I can’t dance all night, the way I did back then.
but I’m not too old, and not too cold to fall in love again…chorus
Still a little spark,
Still a little sweetness in the dark
Still a lot of love left in my heart.
I left my mark upon the world, it left its mark on me.
I’ve got a little pension, and some social security.
Some days we sit at breakfast for hours while we talk
in the afternoons you lean on me when we go for a walk….chorus
