It is beyond belief, but I think we have to not just shake our heads but keep speaking up, standing up, and not letting this madness normalize.
I was inspired by the marches on Saturday. Just being in the midst of signs and hats and chants and even joy filled my spirit. Now for the long haul.
This song is probably not my best crafted song, but time is of the essence. The news cycle goes so fast. Thanks to Tom for his idea for another verse. There are probably a million more that could be written.
Alternative facts
Shape the whole world like it’s
Your ball of wax
Alternative facts
All up to you
Nobody said they’re supposed to be true.
The moon’s made of cheese not dust and stone
That’s a fact I’ve always known.
I don’t care what the astronauts say
Everybody knows they never went anyway.
The sun orbits the earth it’s easy to see
That’s a fact that’s clear to me.
You’re a heretic if you disagree
Or part of the liberal conspiracy.
But there is some science that does come first
It’s the part about a parallel universe.
Beyond discussion. Beyond dispute.
Beyond question. Beyond refute
If the press does something that you don’t like
Just shut em down, like the Third Reich
Love is Hate. Peace is War
That’s a fact I learned from 1984.
Alternative facts about votes or size
Another word for that is just plain lies.

So, in Trader Joe’s yesterday (day after the marches around the world) the checker said “How’s your day so far?” What popped out of my mouth surprised even me, “I learned a new phrase today – alternative facts!” The checker said – “WHAT?” As I began to explain the origin of the phrase (KellyAnne Conway), the woman who had just arrived at the checkout line said loudly, “Are you talking about Alternative Facts?” There was an audible snicker from those in hearing distance. This may be you’re breakthrough song to phenomenal stardom, Stuart! I’m sharing!
WONDERFUL!!!! Great job Stuart and Tom.
Love this song, Stuart. Speak up, Stand up, De-normalize, shine light on lies! Went to the DC march w/Bri – and I’ll be humming this song to as inspiration to continued action!
You know, alternative facts for alternative universes…all makes sense, no? No!
Stuart – sharing with so many! Great song!
Love it Stuart. So hard to believe what is going on, isn’t it? I didn’t march but attended a Memorial Service for a wonderful woman who would have marched. My favorite verse is about the moon. Somebody actually posted that on a page devoted to our friend, Gene Cernan. I remember when Buzz Aldrin decked someone for saying that to him.
Brilliant!
I want to learn it!
Great song, Stuart! Sharing!
